The security and reliability of our cloud online backup system takes the highest priority. Multiple layers of security are provided to ensure that your data can be accessed only by you.
All data is encrypted using 256bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption before it even leaves your PC/Server. Data is encrypted using a key known only to you. The content of your backup remains unreadable without the correct key - even by BackupVault staff.
Warning: Never forget your encryption key! Without it we will be unable to restore your data!
The backup software at the customer's premises connects to our backup servers over the Internet using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This is the same kind of encryption used by all online banking transactions. Once the account has been authorised, the encrypted data is sent securely over the Internet to our storage servers.
BackupVault uses two UK based datacenters provided by Connections4London (Bournemouth) and Redstation (Southampton). Both datacenters feature the highest level of physical security and safety, including:
As our servers are located in the UK and not the USA as are many other providers, your data is not subject to the US Patriot Act. The Patriot Act essentially allows the US Government undue and unfettered access to your data. Put simply - your data is as secure and safe as it can be.
In addition to physical and software based security, the datacenters also have a number of ISO credentials. They both have ISO 9001 (Quality Assurance) indicating our commitment to providing the highest standards across our range of solutions. They also have ISO 27001 (Information Security) indicating that your data will be held secure and confidential.
