Frequently Asked Questions
How does BackupVault Work?
It works by sending an encrypted copy of your files over the
Internet to our secure server for storage. If you need to
restore a file, you simply select the file you want to restore
from the list and the file will be downloaded off our server
directly to your computer. More information can be found here.
How safe is BackupVault?
BackupVault is very secure. We use 1024bit key exchange encryption
(banks use 128bit) to secure your data when it is being sent
over the Internet, and it stays encrypted when stored on our
servers. For more information on the security, visit the security
page.
Where is all my data going?
Your data will be stored on one of our secure servers located
in the City of London at a secure facility.
I use a tape backup system, why would I need your service?
Tape systems are simply unreliable and also very time consuming
to administer, see the advantages
over tape page.
Is the service automatic?
Yes, backups can be set to run once a day, once a week or
multiple times a day. It is completely up to you.
Can I restore different versions of a file?
Yes. BackupVault stores 30 versions of a file - you simply
select the date you wish to roll back to and restore those
files. For example, if you have a word document you have been
working on every day, you can restore 30 different versions
of the file. If you require more versions, please contact
us for a quotation.
I have a slow Internet connection, does it make sense
using BackupVault?
Yes you can still use BackupVault. The software supports dial
up networking for 56k connections. The initial backup my take
a while, but any subsequent backups should not take too long.
Are the backups full or incremental backups?
The first backup is a full backup. Subsequent backups are
incremental.
Can I backup network drives or use this on a server?
Yes you can. Simply go to the network drive to be backed up
and select your files.
Can I backup several computers/servers?
Yes you can, but you will need an additional account for every
computer. Please contact
us for a competitive quotation.
What files should I select?
You should select only your data files and not programs that
can be found later on CD's. Data files such as images, Word
and Excel documents, accounts data etc should all be backed
up.
What operating systems does this work with?
Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/2003/XP, Red Hat Linux, SCO Unix, Novell
Netware, Sun Solaris and Mac OS X.
Do you provide support?
Yes, we provide email and telephone support. Manuals
are also available on our site to help answer most questions.
Are their any hidden charges with this service?
No, you can backup and restore as many times as you like.
