How to install BackupVault Pro for Linux operating systems

Introduction

BackupVault Pro is available for Ubuntu (deb) and Redhat (rpm) based distributions of Linux. Installation via command line is recommended.

Installation for Ubuntu/Debian

  1. Download the latest version from the downloads page and save it to your Linux server.

  2. Install the BackupVault Pro package:
    sudo dpkg -i <dpkg file name>
  3. Add relevant users to the newly created "backuppro" group:
    sudo usermod -G backuppro -a <user>

  4. Log in as the <user> user.

  5. Check that the service has been started and start it if necessary:
    systemctl status backuppro.service

  6. Start the Backup Client UI:
    backupprogui

Installation for Redhat/Centos

  1. Download the latest version from the downloads page and save it to your Linux server.
  2. Switch to the root user:
    su

  3. Install the Backup Pro package:
    rpm i <Client rpm file>
  4. Add relevant users to the newly created "backuppro" group:
    gpasswd -a <user> backuppro

  5. Log in as the <user> user

  6. Check that the service has been started and start it if necessary:
    systemctl status backuppro.service

  7. Start the Backup Client UI:
    backupprogui

Create an account using the command line

  1. Create an account:
    backupprocli create_account

  2. Enter the storage platform address, group name and account create key as provided by the technical support team.

  3. Enter in a password and encryption key you wish to use.

  4. Allow Remote Connections:
    backupprocli remote_tunnel
    Press enter to select Platform by default. If you use Password you will need to enter a password each time you open the client remotely.

  5. Log into the management console.

  6. Once logged into the management console, right click on the account and select Connect to Backup Client.
