Ending the Guesswork: How BackupVault Transformed Backup Across Gloucestershire Schools

The Client
Gloucestershire’s network of schools, supported by Sajid and his IT team, faced a familiar but serious issue — outdated, inconsistent backup practices. Some schools relied on Backup Exec from as far back as 2007, others used manual USB copying, and many were still using traditional tape backups with no monitoring or alerts.
Sajid recalls finding schools that had been changing tapes daily for over a year, only to discover no backups had actually been completed in two or three years. With no visibility, no alerting, and no real assurance, the situation was, in his words, “a complete mess.”
Our Solution
BackupVault partnered with Sajid’s team to implement a UK based, modern, centralised backup system across their school estate — now safeguarding over 60 sites. The solution is fully compliant with National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), GDPR, and Department for Education guidelines. All backups are immutable, offsite, and fully automated.

Originally, the schools were using Redstor backup through a third-party reseller — but when support issues arose, the provider failed to help.
